BASOMATIK is one of the top DJ/Producers from Tampa, FL. His work has been featured on TWRK Vol. 2, 3, & 4, Do Androids Dance, Fist In The Air, Benzi’s Girl Trapz Vol. 5, White Folks Get Crunk and Smash Th eClub as well as Sirius XM’s Hip Hop Nation and BBC Radio 1Xtra’s Diplo & Friends. You can catch him at the Amphitheatre Event Facility every Saturday for “AMP!D”, one of the largest electro parties in Florida. He has also opened for some of the biggest acts in the industry including GTA, Porter Robinson, Tchami, UZ, Oliver Heldens, Adventure Club and many more… We caught up with BASOMATIK recently at Sunset Music Festival where he had just played the main stage.
Where does the name BASOMATIK come from?
Actually, nobody knows this…it was originally supposed to be “Bass-o-matic” from an old Saturday Night Live skit with Dan Akroyd. The skit is based on a blender where he is throwing all kinds of things into this blender. It then became BASOMATIK after everyone at my residency started to call me that.
How did you get started as a DJ?
About 10 years, one day I went to the club and decided I wanted to the do that. I had no idea what DJing was and my mentor (Andy Kovacs) at Clear Channel Radio at 93.3. FLZ here in Tampa helped me out by bringing me in the studio and teaching me.
Can you tell us a little bit about your style?
It’s all about fusion, but with hip-hop. I love hip-hop and using all the different sounds it incorporates. I also grew up in a Spanish household listening to a lot of Salsa, so that also influences some of my style.

Do you remember your first gig?
I did a lot private gigs at first and started doing some college frat parties here at USF (University of South Florida). I was DJing a lot of frat parties for free, but I got the experience I needed and now I’m here.
Who inspires you as a producer?
Diplo, that man is a beast. He’s all about infusing all different sounds and elements. His sound is so diverse and that’s the label (Mad Decent) I want to shoot for.
How do you feel when other DJ/producers drop your track in their sets?
I love it! It’s always great to hear when someone drops one of my tracks. One night on my way to a gig I was listening to Sirius Radio Hip-Hop Nation and I heard DJ Noodles drop one of my remxies, and I was like “Damn, that’s dope!” It always pushes me to want to do more.
What is your goal as a DJ/Producer?
I want to be able to travel the world doing what I love. I want to experience the world and different cultures. I want to take the different sounds of all those cultures and infuse them into my tracks.

If you could go on a tour with 3 other DJs, who would they be?
Tchami, DJ Snake, and Diplo. That would be insane!
What is a typical day in the life of BASOMATIK?
Eat, sleep, produce, and go to the gym. The gym clears my head and that’s where I get a lot my ideas.
What is your opinion on the Zac Efron DJ movie, “We Are Your Friends”?
Looking at it from an outside perspective, it goes to show how far EDM has come. As a DJ, it’s a joke and they are trying to Hollywoodize the scene. I’ll watch it just to check it out.
What can people expect when they go to a BASOMATIK show?
You can expect an unforgettable show. I play everything from Electro, Trap, House, Twerk, and more. You are not going to my show and hear just one style; it’s a multi-genre show.

Laptop, USB’s, SD Cards, and 2 headphones.
Where do you see yourself 5 years from now?
I’d love to connect with a label like Mad Decent. I’ve been doing a lot remixes, but my main focus is on originals.

Just expect a lot soon. I’m really working with a lot of different people to perfect my sound and technicality to give you the best and thank you all for your support!
