Twenty years ago and at the tender age of 15, A-Trak became the DMC World DJ Champion in 1997 after only two years of DJing. He has since became a pillar of the music community as a successful DJ, producer, Kanye West’s tour DJ, and founder of Fool’s Gold Records. Now, he’s giving producers and DJs the opportunity to shine at his first annual Goldie Awards.
The Goldie Awards is a new battle that has two categories with a DJ battle and a beat battle. The awards will be hosted by Dave East and judged by Diplo, Just Blaze, DJ Craze, Destructo, Mija, Mannie Fresh, and more. The Goldie Awards are the result of a partnership between Fool’s Gold Records and Vice’s THUMP and Noisey verticals.
The judges will select contestants based on Instagram video submissions and will fly the six DJs and beat battle finalists to New York City for the final battle which will take place on September 7th at NYC’s Brooklyn Steel. The winner of the DJ competition will earn a performance spot at Fool’s Gold Day Off, and the winner of the beat battle will get a song released on Fool’s Gold Records.
